Emily Rau (2017 cohort) was one of the alumni administrative assistants for DDCSP UM in summer of 2019 where she not only supported the summer program operations that year, but also got to work with Michigan Sea Grant (MISG) under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Riseng. Emily started her master’s program at UofM School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) in Fall 2019 and was able to work for MISG as a work-study student. She continued this work during summer of 2020 with Weinberg funding through SEAS, which led to a recently published report: The Dynamic Great Lakes Economy: Employment Trends from 2009 to 2018.

“Writing this report got me out of my comfort zone of ecological sciences into the social sciences and helped me strengthen my data analysis and writing communication skills.” – Emily Rau
