Year 3: Alumni Administrative Assistants

Applications open December 2, 2019*

Outstanding alumni from DDCSP YSE may be invited to apply for a third-year administrative assistant opportunity with the program. Two alumni scholars were selected for the Summer of 2018 and three alumni scholars were chosen for the Summer of 2019. Alumni scholars are provided with a stipend of $6,500 for a nine-week internship. The following expenses incurred by alumni scholars are also covered by the program:

  • Housing costs
  • Food allowance
  • Travel to and from Ann Arbor
  • Field trip costs

Only students who complete two years in the DDCS program at Yale University (formally the University of Michigan) are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to scholars who have developed leadership abilities and demonstrate an interest in attending graduate school or entering the conservation or environmental workforce.

Administrative Assistant roles:

  • Provide administrative support to DDCSP YSE Staff (60%)
    • Attend a weekly meeting with DDCSP YSE staff
    • Assist with first and second-year scholars orientation
    • Document field trips by taking photos and videos
    • Assist with media communications – website updates and twitter
    • Serve as field trip assistants
    • Help with scholars’ capstone symposium presentations
    • Perform other tasks as needed
  • Serve as Residence Hall Assistants (20%)
    • Coordinate All Scholars activities (documentary film-viewing, other events)
    • Serve as main contact for scholars in case of emergency
  • Assist with research on diversity in environmental institutions (20%)
    • Work with DDCSP YSE team in collecting research data
    • Attend training sessions on research methods
